The eCourt Kokua portal provides free access to basic case information from the Second Circuit, including docket entries, case parties, hearing dates, and case status. - Navigate to the eCourt Kokua disclaimer page and accept the terms.

- Enter the available information and submit the search.
- Review docket entries — if a PDF icon appears next to a docket entry, the underlying document is available for purchase and immediate download.
Document download fees through eCourt Kokua are $3.00 per document (1–30 pages), with each additional page beyond 30 costing $0.10. Certified copies purchased through the system cost $5.00 per document. Frequent users may purchase a non-refundable subscription at $125.00 per quarter or $500.00 per year for unlimited single downloads of public documents.
In-Person Access

Office hours are 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, except state holidays. Counter hours for public service run from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Written (Mail/Fax) Requests
Those unable to visit in person may submit a written request to the Legal Documents Branch. The judiciary provides a Request to Access Court Records form that should be completed with the case number, party names, the specific documents sought, and whether plain or certified copies are needed. - Do not include payment with the initial request. An invoice will be mailed outlining applicable fees.

Are Court Records Public in Maui County?
Most court records in Maui County are open to public inspection under the Hawaii Court Records Rules (HCRR) and the Uniform Information Practices Act (UIPA) codified in Chapter 92F of the Hawaii Revised Statutes. Conviction records — arrests that resulted in a guilty finding — are considered public and can be viewed at public access sites around the state or searched online through the eCrim website. Arrest records that did not result in a conviction or are still pending are confidential and are not available to the general public.

Expungement
Under Hawaii Revised Statutes § 831-3.2, individuals arrested but not convicted may apply through HCJDC to have the arrest record expunged. Expunged records become confidential and are no longer accessible to the public.
Maui County Civil Court Records
Civil disputes in Maui County are divided between the Second Circuit Court and the District Court based on the amount in controversy and the type of relief sought. The Circuit Court has exclusive original jurisdiction over civil matters involving claims above $40,000, as well as equity actions, mechanic’s lien cases, and other proceedings outside District Court jurisdiction. The District Court handles regular civil claims up to $40,000 (with concurrent jurisdiction alongside the Circuit Court for claims between $10,000 and $40,000), summary possession (eviction) actions, and small claims up to $5,000.

Maui County Family Court Records

Because of the sensitive nature of family proceedings, certain records may be restricted from public view. Juvenile records, adoption files, and records sealed by court order are not available to the general public. Motions in paternity cases carry no filing fee. All other filing fees include the initial filing fee, surcharge, computer system surcharge, and parent education surcharge where applicable.
Marriage Records
Marriage licenses and certificates are maintained by the Hawaii Department of Health, not the courts. Orders can be placed online through the Department of Health’s vital records portal or by mail. The fee is $10.00 for the first copy and $4.00 for each additional copy, plus a $5.00 general administrative fee (for up to five copies). Divorce Records
Divorce records from July 1951 through December 2002 are held by the Department of Health and can be requested with a completed divorce record request form and the applicable fee ($10.00 first copy, $4.00 each additional). For divorces finalized before or after those dates, contact the Second Circuit Court’s Legal Documents Branch at (808) 244-2969.
Birth and Death Records
The Hawaii Department of Health — Vital Records Division (with a Maui District Health Office) manages birth and death certificates. Certified copies can be ordered online, by phone at (866) 601-6462, or by mail using the birth certificate request form or death certificate request form. Only individuals with a direct and tangible interest in the record — such as the registrant, a parent, spouse, or legal representative — may obtain a certified copy.
Maui County Probate Court Records
Maui County does not have a separate probate court. Probate, estate, guardianship, conservatorship, and trust matters are handled by the Second Circuit Court sitting in its probate capacity. The filing fee for probate, conservatorship, conservator-guardianship, trust, and equity proceedings in Circuit Court is determined by the Estate and Guardianship Branch.
